To Kindle Or Not To Kindle

Posted March 09, 2012, under Books, Life, Personal Update, Reading

I have a Sony reader and love it. It’s a few years old and has ton of books on it waiting for me to read.

But I love paperback books. If I have a choice, I will go paper all the time. Also, there is the fact that I refuse to pay more for an ebook than a paperback. Unfortunately, with the new revolution of indie-publishing, a lot of books don’t have that option anymore.

I purchase most of my books from Amazon now (both digital and paperback). I can convert the digital files and put them on my Sony, but part of me is whispering to just get over it and buy a kindle.

So that brings me back to my dilemma. Do I really need a second ereader? If I go to my TBR pile, I almost always go to my paperbacks, not the few thousand digital files I have waiting for me. So my problem…What do you suggest?

Do you have a kindle? Do you like it? And if you could do it again, what type of kindle would you get this time around?

I own a Nook and I love it. I wanted an ereader that supported EPUB files and also a brick and morter books store. My Nook Color is great. I love the features and I also love not being tied to the big Amazon monster. My smart phone has Kindle on it but I have yet to down load anything.

Before I got a Kindle, I never thought I would enjoy reading on an e-reader, but now I won’t buy paper books–they are too expensive and it’s a waste of paper.
But as for e-readers, not sure it really matters what one you have. I’m not pro Kindle, I just happen to have one, but I’m sure I would love the nook if I had it instead, or the Sony e-reader.

I have a first generation Nook and still love it. I realize that sooner or later I’ll need to upgrade but right now I’m good. I don’t have a smartphone either. Long story for another time. I do, however, have the Kindle app on my PC. Love it. Download all the free Kindle books. I have a couple of subscriptions to sites where you get a email telling you what’s free that day.

I say that if you love your Sony, keep it. Download the Kindle app for your laptop and you are good to go. But hey, its just my opinion.

I don’t have any type of ereader. I just download to my pc and read. I want an Ipad, but don’t have the money for one.

I have a Kindle Fire and absolutely love it! I get to check my emails at night and read and surf social medias.

I’ve never had another e-reader so not sure how they compare exactly.

It sounds as if you only using it to read you really don’t need another e-reader if it’s doing it’s job. I’d say unless you want a new one that looks different (i.e. in color)

I have Kindle for PC and…haven’t used it. I’ve downloaded books so I can one day transfer them to an eReader. I love my paperbacks. I like dog-earing the corners, I love the sound it makes when I slap it down on the nightstand.

Will I ever buy a handheld eReader? Yes, one day. I don’t know which brand I’ll buy though.

    Thanks for the comments, ladies!

I looked at the nook color and the kindle fire, but the draw back is the way both devices drain the batteries.

    I appreciate you stopping by!

I got a Kindle for Mother’s Day two years ago. It took my husband a year to talk me into it and I love it. The biggest advantage to me, other than not having to lug 4-5 books around with me when I travel, is that it doesn’t stress my eyes as much as the print in some books do now. I don’t use glasses for reading, but the small print was getting to me. Also, now that I live in the Virgin Islands, it is harder to keep books in good condition.

I don’t have a kindle but I have a nook. I love paperback too but I also like to travel and you can’t beat the ereader’s portability, especially if you go through books quickly. Otherwise, I’d be toting around 4-5 books each trip.

    Thanks for stopping by, everyone!

I decided not to purchase a kindle at this time….then my husband read the blog and changed my mind. Said I needed to treat myself and if I didn’t, he would.

He took me to town and we picked one out together. He’s a sweetie!!
