I came home from work late on Monday. Hubby was already home and had the dog in the garage with him, doing man things. I went in the house, did chores, ate some food, then went out to visit with them. I usually jog or run to the garage, that night was no different.
Then I noticed something odd.
Something was in my yard, no more than ten feet from me.
We both stopped still. It would be a toss-up to see which one of us was more surprised.
Then the poor thing took off running.
Are you curious? Here is who I found:
Yes, you see that right. A peacock. In Minnesota. How cool is that.
My next thought was the poor thing. Nights are already getting colder. I’m guessing it’s not a wild bird, but someone’s pet as they do need care during the cold.
My hubby saw it crossing the road last night again. I hope it makes it home. We’re trying to keep dog in the house as much as possible, so he won’t eat the bird.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever found in your yard? We’ve had cats, dogs, mice, snakes, frogs, deer, geese and an assortment of all type of birds, not to mention squirrels and chipmunks up the wazoo. Oh, did I forget to mention a snapping turtle that our dog tried to eat? And now a peacock to finish it off.

They are beautiful birds, but their cry will drive you berserk after a while. The strangest thing we’ve found in our yard is a full can of Budwiser, we think left as a house warming gift when we moved here. LOL
Nice post, Stacey.
No, I’ve never head a peacock before.
Besides a vague reference in a book I read years ago about how annoying they were, I didn’t know they made noise.
Budwiser…I could live with that. lol
It is a God-awful screech! I was in a production at a college one summer and they had a bunch of peacocks on the grounds. I was never so close to bird murder as I was by the end of that production! LOL
Now you have me curious. A couple of people at work mentioned the noise as well.
I’ll have to google a video to see what everyone means.
Love peacocks, but their screech is very loud and annoying.
The strangest thing in my back yard was a bear.
Okay, bear.
You win. lol
We’ve had bears cross the road a few miles from here. The DNR said there were about five bears in our area, but I’ve never had one in our yard.
At my parnets cabin, yes. When we were young, it ate a cooler we left on the porch to get to the food inside. Let’s just say we were very cautious for a few days.
Ha, I’ve got one for you. A crying, naked lady. A bit strange, even when I was a kid.
Oh, wow, you have the best stories!
A naked, crying lady would be on the top of the list as well. lol
Ha, not too sure I’d say the best.. usually just the weirdest. I think my life has been nothing but a series of strange coincidences.
We’ve had all sorts of wildlife, but nothing that didn’t belong where we lived. How cool to have a peacock.
I know, right?
We saw it for three days then it vanished. I hope it found its way home!
