To start Fall off right, here is a short excerpt from my latest release The Demon Within to heat up your nights.

Early autumn had always been Caly’s favorite time of the year. From the window over the kitchen sink, she watched the breeze stir the trees, heard the branches clacking against one another as the outside world came alive one last time before winter’s slumber turned everything lifeless and cold.

Leaves crackled, sailing to the ground and eddying about before disappearing in the darkness. She needed to contact her djinn, but every time she attempted to leave, she found herself trailed by one determined demon.

The ticking of the clock was like an itch along her spine. Time was growing short. If she didn’t move soon, it would be too late. Tipping her head, she searched for the demon. If she could get to the bike before he caught…

Her gaze latched onto the guardian as he stripped off his shirt and all thoughts of demon evaporated as lust exploded through her. Under the harsh exterior lights, every detail of his body lay exposed. Like viewing an accident, she couldn’t force herself to turn away.

Water sprayed over him, cascading down his back, the fall of drops hypnotizing. Muscles rippled and flexed as he ran his hand down his stomach to wipe away the dirt. Her fingers twitched, eager to follow the same path.

The image grew hazy. A whimper escaped the back of her throat to see him disappear from view. The sound of such need snapped her back to the present with a nasty thump. She pulled away, surprised to find her face nearly smashed against the glass, her breath fogging the window. Embarrassment burned her ears. The only thing that saved her tattered composure was that no one had caught her lapse.

Caly stepped away from the window, further away from temptation. It was harder than it should’ve been. She couldn’t be attracted to him. Not only was he a demon, she didn’t even know his name.

One problem was easily solved, but she hesitated in the doorway. Maybe it’d be better to keep that distance between them, prevent her from doing something stupid.

Like ogling his half-naked form.

Like permitting him to stay in such close proximity to her friends.

It was a risk. Then again, she’d rather have him out in the open than skulking in the shadows again. Too many things waited for her in the shadows already.

Determination forced her shoulders square. She needed to lay down some ground rules. The sooner he learned them, the better off the others would be. As for herself, she feared it was much too late.

Convinced her logic was sound, Caly hesitated then yanked a towel off the cupboard. No sense in being rude. Maybe if she could gain his trust, she’d be able to sneak away without him on her ass.

Pulse pounding like a teenager with a crush, she went outside to confront him. Long strides ate the distance between them all too quickly. She opened her mouth to call out.

Only to have her breath stall in her chest. Up close, he was even more impressive than she’d imagined.

A light mist of water sprayed her, but she hardly noticed the coolness on her overheated skin.

Gooseflesh covered his exposed torso. Frozen like the statue he used to be, Caly couldn’t seem to force herself to move. He stopped stock-still like he sensed her watching. He bent forward and switched off the hose, giving her a perfect view of his behind that made her mouth water.

Then he turned, catching her in the act.

They both held motionless.

She licked her lips, her eyes following a rivulet of water as it trailed into the waistband of his pants. Muscles flexed under her gaze, calling out for her touch. Strength lay in his body. Strength she’d experienced firsthand and still felt in her dreams.

An angel? Caly thought not. Not with a body like his just ripe for sinning.

She dabbed at her face only to stop dead at his smile. Following his gaze, she glanced down and blinked in surprise at her nearly exposed torso. It looked like she’d entered a wet t-shirt contest.

And from his expression, won.

Feeling hunted and wanting to be caught a little too much, Caly threw the towel at his face.

He deftly caught it mid-air, doing nothing to diminish the intensity in his eyes.

A shiver raced over her as the breeze picked up, and she crossed her arms, refusing to admit it had anything to do with him. Never one to second-guess her actions, she couldn’t understand this sudden shyness.

If she didn’t want to kill him, she wanted to kiss him.

Her focus went unerringly to the towel as he dried off, the way he dragged it over his body. No way could she form coherent words while he performed such an intimate task. He finally looped the towel around his neck, leaving his smooth chest exposed. Barely able to tear her gaze away, she dared a glance up to his eyes.

Only to find that he seemed to be just as fascinated with her. His hunger made her feel like a chicken wing at an all-you-can-eat buffet. She shouldn’t have felt relief at not being the only one affected, but she did.

“We need to talk.” Her voice came out husky and provocative rather than the stern she was aiming for.

Embarrassed, she forced her gaze from his body and stared over his shoulder. Unfortunately, her imagination worked just fine.

I love Halloween. The atmosphere. The haunted castles. Scary movies. Ghosts and the paranormal. The sheer fun of scaring yourself silly. Let’s not forget the candy. On this magical night, the veil between the living and the dead thins and anything seems possible.

Do you know the story behind the popular custom of Jack-O’-Lanterns? A light is inserted in a pumpkin to create a lantern then placed outside to guide lost spirits home when they wander free on Halloween. Is that both sweet and creepy to anyone else?

Now onto the contest: To be entered to win a $5 Amazon Gift Certificate, leave a comment and either tell me what kind of paranormal creature you would like to be if you had a choice or your favorite scary movie. Don’t forget to leave your email address so I can let you know if you won!

I love zombies, so my favorite zombie movies are Serenity (Hey, it counts, lol), Resident Evil and the TV series The Walking Dead. I could rattle off a few dozen more, but I’ll spare you. I can’t seem to get enough of them. As for for my choice of paranormal creature, I think it would be fun to have magic. In fact, a lot of my books include some sort of magic…along with vampires, shifters, witches, demons, angels and yes, even zombies. I’ve included a short excerpt below of The Demon Within if you’re curious.

Now post. I can’t wait to see what you’ve decided!

The Demon Within Excerpt:

(First meeting with the hero)

Caly met the open-eyed stare of the stone man, forever captured in time. Caly’s lips parted, and her breath stuttered out of her mouth.

There was a God.

The man — and from her view kneeling on the moss covered ground, he was most definitely a man — was absolutely gorgeous. Not in the normal sense, not by Hollywood standards. Prominent cheekbones, a full, sharp nose and a strong jaw kept his face from being too feminine.

Desire twisted through her. A deep yearning tightened her chest, and a bubble of hope swelled. This was a man she could depend on to not let her down. When she looked at him, the chaos inside that defined most of her life settled.

She felt normal.

Then reality crashed over her.

Desire for a damn statue.

How ironic she could be attracted to stone when living men left her cold. But here, in the middle of nowhere, she found a man who turned her on like nobody else, and he wasn’t real. It was enough to make a grown girl cry.

Little details filtered into her brain, and a thrill of excitement thrummed under her skin. The answers she sought about her condition were stuck in the past; she only had to uncover the clues. Since they’ve landed, he was the first concrete hint something was off.

This was why she came here. What quieted her protests against the mission. All for the chance to learn if there was a possibility for her to be fully human again and finally destroy the demon infection that had taken root and flourished in her body. Every day, it ate away her humanity. Relished the fighting a bit too much. Each time the darkness opened up in her, the more she wondered why she fought it at all.

The mission forgotten, Caly took her time to catalog the odd details. The statue wasn’t what she’d come to expect from this region. Instead of native garb, the grey stone man had chiseled, close fitted pants.

Two inch carved straps crisscrossed his chest, appearing to almost dig into the stone. His long hair, wild with waves, was tied back from his face. Her fingers twitched to run her hands over him. Though his complexion was tinged green with age, the fierce expression drew her gaze instead of repelling her.

The turn of his lips was anything but sensual, yet their fullness made her think of sex and what a man could do with a mouth like his.

Strong shoulders led down to a lean, sculptured chest. His open shirt did little to disguise his physique. The statue shouldn’t have impressed her, but it was as if the stone called to her. A streak of light filtered through the canopy, wavered a moment then illuminated him like an offering.

Something just for her. She had to curl her fingers into a fist to resist touching him.

As she watched, she swore his chest moved to breathe.

Has anyone else noticed that the days are getting shorter?

Peoples gardens are winding down.

Our Summer geese left over a month ago.

Last night the temperature dropped below 60.

The trees haven’t turned yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that

happening sooner rather than later.

Has anyone else been inundated with school shopping ads?

It’s official. Summer is ending.

So to celebrate, I’ve decided to offer a little sale for my books. Now, until the end of September, both of my books are available for $3.99 each.

You can find my books here:

Isn’t it gorgeous?

More than darkness lurks in the shadows…

When the balance in the world is threatened, human survival rests in the hands of two unlikely saviors, a disgraced angel and a reformed demon.

As a punishment for failing his duty as an angel, Ruman finds himself encased in stone in the form of a guardian statue. Every few decades he is given a chance to repent. And fails. Until the totally unsuitable Caly Sawyer accidentally brings him back to life. Nothing is going to prevent him from gaining his freedom, especially some willfully stubborn human determined to kill him.

Caly doesn’t trust the mysterious stranger who came out of nowhere and risked his life for hers. As a demon hunter, she knows there is something not quite human about the sexy bastard. Her ability to detect demons is infallible. She should know. She used to be one.

War is brewing between demons and humans. The demon infection that Caly had always considered a curse might just be the key to their survival…if Ruman can keep her alive long enough. Despite the volatile attraction between her and her sexy protector, Caly’s determined to do whatever it takes to keep everyone alive. The more Ruman learns about his beautiful charge, the more he questions his duty and loyalty…and dreads the call to return home. If they can’t learn to trust each other in time, one of them will die.

I’m excited for this release. I’m aiming for Mid-June….if I get the edits back and done in time. Gulp!

May 10, 2012.

Did you ever start a project, all gun-hoe, then suddenly things start to slow down and get bogged down.
That’s what happened to me last week on my book edits.

It was taking me longer and longer to finish a chapter. Soon, I couldn’t even get one page done in an hour.

Talk about a study in frustration!

Anyone else feel like you’re the one stuck in the mud?

Then I realized that I was focusing too much on the tiny details and missing the big picture. Things finally started to click.

I’m almost done with the month long edits. It’s taken twice as long as I expected. The only good thing out of this is I do think the book is better for it.

How about you? Did you ever start a project then find that it just kinda petered out?

What did you do to get back the passion and dig yourself out?
